PORCELAIN VENEERS

 One of the most exciting techniques in cosmetic dentistry involves bonding a thin

 laminated veneer made of porcelain to the etched enamel tooth surface. A veneer 

does not stain! And it remains attractive for long period of time.  the inside of the

veneer is etched to enhance their attachment to the etched tooth surface. Composite

 resin cement is then used to bond the porcelain to the tooth.

Treatment time: two office visits. The teeth will be prepared and an impression made

 during the first visit, which can take from one to four hours. Expect some time more

 to construct esthetic temporary veneers. The veneers will be fitted and inserted at the

 second  visit, which may also take the same amount of time. Expect to spend more

time for more extensive treatment.

Patient maintenance: the teeth should be professionally cleaned two to three times

yearly. Warn  your hygienist not to use ultrasonic scaling or air abrasive. Take special

care when biting into or chewing hard foods with your veneered teeth, because they

will not be as strong as tooth enamel.

Result of treatment: a polished, natural-appearing result that effectively masks stains

and  irregularities in tooth structure.

Average range of treatment life expectancy: 10- 12 years.
