ORTHODONTICS
Orthodontics or tooth straightening, is the best way to correct malpositioned or crooked teeth, but was shunned by many adults because treatment was lengthy and old-fashioned metal braces were conspicuous and unattractive.
but no problems of this kind now. Recently with the advent of plastic or invisible braces, ceramic or tooth coloured braces and lingual or behind the teeth braces more than 25% of the patients seen by orthodontists are adults.
Treatment time: 6 -24 months depending on the problem.
Patient maintainance: special attention to daily cleaning; adjustment checkups every three to four weeks. Retainers need to be worn at night.
Result of treatment: crowded or overlapping teeth can be straightened.
Average range of treatment life expectancy: permanent.
