DENTAL IMPLANTS

What exactly is a dental implant?
It is simply a metal or ceramic device that replaces the root of the natural tooth. After an implant is placed into the underlying bone, artificial teeth are attached to it, enabling normal function.
Whether an implant is right for you depends on where the implant will be placed, the kind of bone available in the jaw, and the design of the tooth or teeth that will be placed on the implant.
Who places implants?
We have a specialized team comprising of an implantologist, who places the implants; a restorative dentist ; and a technician, who fabricates the restoration and attaches the teeth.
How are implants placed?

Who can benefit from implants?
Most patiets are good candidates for implamt dentistry. If sufficient bone is present, patients who have worn a fixed or removable bridge can opt for mplant-supported bridges. This means that even if you have worn a fixed bridge, a removable partial denture or a full denture, you may still be a good candidate for implant dentistry. Implants also act as an excellent source of anchorage for patients with loose or ill-fitting dentures.
There is also good news for patients who have been told previously that they do not have sufficient bone for implant placement.after evaluating your bone quality and quantity after OPG x-rays and a CT scan if required; if there is not enough bone for implant placement, a bone graft is placed. A bone graft involves placing a small amount of bone crystals, usually bovine; and after sufficient healing, sufficient bone is available for implant placement.
Implant therapy has been tremendously beneficial to patients who have been unable to wear, or do not want to wear, removable or fixed bridges.
Treatment time
Surgical placement time per implant is approx. one hour, depending on the complexity of the procedure. Healing takes place approx. 2-3months while the implant permanently attaches to the bone. After healing, another appointment is necessary to uncover the implant and place a healing cap so we can construct the final crown.
Result of treatment
Best approximates your own teeth. Provides teeth, that are natural appearing and individual functioning. Avoids unnecessary tooth structureremoval on natural adjacent teeth.
Average range of treatment life expectancy
Once successfully integrated into the bone, the implant can last indefinitely, barring infection.
Implants are not for everyone
Dental implants are not the right choice for every patient. Gum tissues should be disease free. Patients with medical conditions that affect the body’s ability to heal and repair itself, such as diabetes and cancer, as well as patients with conditions affecting ability to use the hands and arms, are usually not good candidates for implants. Likewise, patients who are not committed to thorough home care are better off with other restorative options.
Do implants require any home care?
Just because implants are not “real” teeth does not mean oral hygiene is less important. Plaque accumulation on implants can cause inflammation of the gums, and eventually loss of bone surrounding the teeth. Therefore thorough cleaning twice a day is critical. We give the best method for taking care of the particular implant that will help you maintain good oral health.
